Wind Farm Open Day

Guided tours of the wind farm, related displays and a new Wind Sound sculpture by Will Menter will be unveiled at Westmill Wind Farm Open day on Saturday 19th June.  Korky Paul, famous illustrator and author of Winnie the Witch, will be presiding over a turbine naming ceremony when he will be handing out prizes to winners of a naming competition from local primary schools. Their winning names will be painted on to the turbines with their school logo at around 2pm.  Pictures by the winners of a photography competition will be displayed and the proud photographers will be presented with their prizes.  Korky Paul will be presenting the prizes including signed copies of his books kindly donated by Oxford Press University Press.

Faringdon Junior School choir will give the whole event a bit of extra pizzazz along with musicians from Vale Partnership Schools playing music written especially for the occasion.  There will be displays of work undertaken during the preceding schools week at the Wind Farm as well as childrens activities: working with recycled materials, felt-making and making windmills.

There will also be a Farm Visit with the farmer, Adam Twine, looking at crops, conservation and farming alongside the wind farm

Refreshments, including locally produced barbecue fare cooked by Highworth Scouts, will be available.  Come and see the Winnie the Witch mobile library.  OCC supports renewable energy, including wind farms, which you can read about from books borrowed from your local library as well as borrowing all Korky Paul books.

Come and have a grand day out!
