Fresh Wind Farm

This week five wind turbines were erected at Westmill Wind Farm, near Swindon in Oxfordshire.

The 1.3MW turbines are now standing in line, waiting to be energized. 50m to the hub with a 60m rotor, the blades will soon rotate, generating green electricity to power the equivalent of 2,500 average homes for the next 25 years.

Adam Twine, Co-op director and local organic farmer, has been looking forward to this moment for some 15 years. Watching the last of the turbines being lifted into place this week he said, This looks great! Its a beacon of hope for positive change and people power

The Westmill Co-op was set up in 2004 under the guidance of community green power developer, Energy4All. Andrew King, Chair of Energy4All said: Energy4All is absolutely delighted at the construction of this exciting project, which is the largest community owned wind farm in the UK. Its the result of many years of effort on the part of Adam Twine and hundreds of local people, who believe this is a vital contribution to the UKs fight against climate change.
